Photo Diary: Exploring Astoria, Oregon!

A two-hour drive northwest of Portland is the quaint little town of Astoria sitting on the south shore of the Columbia River waiting to be explored. Best known as the home of the 1985 American movie The Goonies, Astoria may not look like much at first glance - but tourism has picked up over the last few years as the city's art scene has grown into one of it's main draws. Commercial Street is the city's retail backbone, housing cute shops and art galleries alongside small cafes and secondhand stores. While you'll spot the likes of the more well-known JcPenny and Starbucks, these are exceptions to Astoria's mostly local flavor - which can be difficult to describe: think a scaled down version of somewhere between Monterey, California (with it's fishing ports and historical feel) and Brooklyn, New York (with it's hipster art flare and delicious food). Still can't quite picture it?? Take a look for yourself...
